Participants and Carers

Participants

 Alt=

We provide participants in the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme with treatment, rehabilitation and care.

Using the Scheme

After you apply and have been accepted as an interim participant in the Scheme, we will pay for the treatment, rehabilitation and care related to your motor accident injuries for the first two years.

If you are accepted into the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme as an ‘interim participant’ for two years and you are nearing the end of your two-year interim period, you must submit an application for ‘lifetime participation.’ This is so the LTCS can assess whether you’re eligible to remain in the Scheme for the rest of your life.

Types of Support

The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme can pay for treatment, rehabilitation and care services related to your motor accident injuries.

Your contact at LTCS

Your LTCS coordinator is your main contact at the Lifetime Care and Support. Their job is to work with case managers and service providers to help you get the support that’s available through the Scheme.

Administration of the Scheme

The Lifetime Care and Support Commissioner of the ACT have entered into an arrangement with the NSW Lifetime Care and Support Authority (LTCSA) to manage the ongoing treatment and care support to the ACT Scheme participants with effect from 1 September 2015. The NSW Authority has expertise administering lifetime care and support schemes having operated a nearly identical scheme for a number of years

The NSW Authority will assist the Lifetime Care and Support Commissioner of the ACT with eligibility as well as managing the ongoing treatment and care support for participants in accordance with the ACT Lifetime Care and Support Guidelines.

What services we provide

The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme pays for a range of treatment, rehabilitation, care and support services, but they must be ‘reasonable and necessary’ and ‘injury-related’.

Information on Case Managers

A case manager will usually coordinate your treatment, rehabilitation and care in the early stages after your injury. They may also coordinate your treatment during times of change, like changing school, work or moving home.

Attendant Care

We pay for attendant care to help you or a person you care for live at home where possible.

Advocacy

An advocate is person who helps you solve an issue you might have about your care, or a service provider. They speak on your behalf to protect and promote your rights and interests.

Disputes about your needs

You may disagree with us on a decision we’ve made about your treatment, rehabilitation or care needs. There are ways to have the decision in question reviewed.
