Attendant Care
We pay for attendant care to help you or a person you care for live at home where possible.
Attendant care services help you do everyday tasks. These can include:
- personal care (like bathing and getting dressed)
- domestic services and home maintenance (like cleaning and lawn mowing)
- home nursing (like managing medicines and other medical needs at home)
- support with engaging in family and community roles (like shopping for and preparing meals or support to attend activities)
- implementing rehabilitation programs (like support to attend appointments and carry out home programs).
The amount of attendant care hours provided depends on individual needs.
Request attendant care
If you think you or a person you care for needs attendant care, talk to your LTCS coordinator or case manager. They will organise a review of your care needs which will be carried out by a health professional (like an occupational therapist).
They will talk with you about your needs and the supports available to help you. They will also talk with you about how much attendant care you would like to receive and request this for you.
We will then assess that request.
Once attendant care has been approved and you have selected an approved attendant care provider, the coordinator from the attendant care provider will organise a home visit to do a safety audit and develop a care plan with you and your family.
They will talk with you about:
- how and when you want to receive care
- the types of services they will provide
- how the service works (like who to contact if you have any problems or questions)
Finding an approved attendant care provider
We can find a local approved attendant care provider for you, or you can use our attendant care finder to help you find one. These attendant care providers have been approved by us because of the quality of their service.
