Who is Eligible
The Scheme will apply to persons who sustain a catastrophic injury resulting from:
- a motor accident, regardless of fault, that occurs in the ACT from 1 July 2014; or
- a workplace accident injury that occurs in the ACT from 1 July 2016.
‘Catastrophic' can include:
- traumatic brain injury
- spinal cord injury
- amputations
- burns
- permanent blindness.
For a motor vehicle injury
The motor accident injury must be a catastrophic injury type mentioned in the Lifetime Care and Support (Catastrophic Injuries) Act 2014 and satisfy the criteria that will be set out in the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme Guidelines.
It will cover pedestrians, cyclists, motor bikes and motor vehicles so long as at least one vehicle involved in the motor accident had CTP cover.
When you are taken to hospital, the hospital usually completes a severe injury advice form with you or your family member, which notifies us of your injuries.
We will then appoint a LTCS Coordinator who will contact you and the hospital to find out more about your injuries and the accident, and to help you complete an interim application form to determine if you are eligible for the Scheme.

For a workplace accident injury
The work injury must be a catastrophic injury type mentioned in the Lifetime Care and Support (Catastrophic Injuries) Act 2014 and satisfy the criteria set out in the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme Guidelines.
The ACT must be the Territory of connection in relation to your employment.
Your employer or workers compensation insurer may lodge an application under the LTCS Scheme for the injury on your behalf. When you are taken to hospital, the hospital usually completes a severe injury advice form with you or your family member, which notifies us of your injuries.
You are also able to lodge the application yourself. We will appoint a LTCS Coordinator who will contact you and the hospital to find out more about your injuries and the accident, and to help you complete an interim application form to determine if you are eligible for the Scheme.
