More for Playgrounds, Suburbs & the Environment
This Budget funds upgrades to Tuggeranong's environment and community facilities.
- $36 million to improve water quality in Lake Tuggeranong and the Tuggeranong Catchment this includes:
- a major upgrade to Isabella Weir
- new wetlands
- new rain gardens and ponds
- new fish habitats in Tharwa
- Shopping centre and playground upgrades across Tuggeranong including:
- Improvements to the outdoor space, lighting and landscape at Kambah Village
- Renewing Anketell St with new street furniture and outdoor space upgrades
- Upgrades to the Howell St playground in Gowrie and the Tuggeranong Skate Park
- Upgrades to the Tuggeranong Community Centre
- Upgrade of the Tidbinbilla Visitors Centre
Roads & Transport for Tuggeranong
The Budget invests in transport infrastructure to improve travel times and convenience.
- Completing the duplication of Ashley Drive to Johnson Drive, including additional cycling lanes and footpath links
- A new park and ride at the Wanniassa Shops
- $10.9 million for new buses and to trial electric buses
- Building a new motor vehicle inspection facility in Hume
Green Bins
Municipal services are expanding in this Budget.
- Funds are provided in 2016–17 for the first garden waste bins for the Territory
- Kambah will be a trial site for the green bin roll-out
Community Safety
This Budget funds upgrades to facilities for police, firefighters and paramedics.
- Building a new State Emergency Service base at Calwell and upgrades to the Guises Creek Rural Fire Service station
- The new Greenway Ambulance station will benefit from extra funding for the ACT Ambulance Service
- Expanding the existing SouthCare hangar for a new, larger rescue helicopter
Investing in Education
Funding is provided to upgrade facilities for Tuggeranong's schools.
- Upgrades to the library and science laboratories at Calwell High School
- Investment in Wanniassa Hills Primary to improve parking and traffic management
- Food technology facility upgrade for Lake Tuggeranong College
Investing in Health, Education & Safer Families
The ACT invests more per person in health and education than any other jurisdiction.
Health
- $139 million for 170 new health staff including 22 doctors, 91 more nurses and 34 more allied health professionals
- $29 million to expand the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department
- $9.96 million for an expanded trauma service and intensive care
- $55.9 million for mental health
- $6.32 million for outpatient and palliative care
Education
- $31.2 million for school upgrades
- $10 million to take our school system digital
Safer families
- Additional funding for the Domestic Violence Crisis Service & Canberra Rape Crisis Centre
- More resources for police, courts & legal aid
Concessions
- $35.1 million in additional concessions for low income households
