- $18.4 million to modernise Belconnen High School

Education for Belconnen
The ACT Government is delivering $1.1 billion this year for education.
In Belconnen, this funds:
- 10,724 students; and
- 1,080 teachers; in
- 25 public schools
Education initiatives in the Budget for Belconnen include:
- $18.4 million for a modernised Belconnen High School. The upgrade will see the construction of a new
building and refurbishment of existing facilities. - $1.7 million for the CIT Bruce campus to upgrade existing facilities
Health for Belconnen
This year the ACT's health Budget has grown to $1.5 billion – the biggest it has ever been.
In Belconnen, some of this funding goes to:
- Continued funding for the world-leading nurse-driven care at the Belconnen Walk-in Centre. The nurse-led walk-in centre opened in 2014 and employs 10 nursing staff.
- Development of a new five-storey car park at Calvary Hospital. The carpark will provide 400 spaces.
Health initiatives in the Budget in Belconnen include:
- $17.7 million in upgrades to Calvary Hospital. The upgrades will see a complete overhaul
of operating theatres, 4 general hospital beds and a second CT scanner. - Funding for the design and construction of the University of Canberra Public Hospital
Emergency Services for Belconnen
The Budget ensures that we are well equipped to respond to emergencies in the ACT and deliver the services Canberrans need and expect.
In Belconnen, the ACT Government is funding:
- New Aranda co-located ambulance and fire station. To be completed at the end of March 2016.
- New West Belconnen Fire and Ambulance Station
- 78 police officers based in Belconnen
Urban Renewal for Belconnen
The Budget is delivering extra funding to spruce up our suburbs with more mowing, cleaning, weeding and other maintenance.
This means:
- $200,000 towards footpaths and cycleways in Belconnen
- More mowing right across Belconnen
- Cleaning of Lake Ginninderra
- Tree pruning and weeding
- More graffiti removal and
prevention
The Budget also funds renewal in West Belconnen, with work continuing on the Riverview development.

Record funding in Health
More hospital beds, more operations and better health facilities with upgrades at The Canberra Hospital and Calvary Hospital, and work continuing on the new University of Canberra Public Hospital.
New funding to address domestic violence
Expanding the capacity of three key domestic and sexual violence crisis services; support for ACT public schools to provide programs and additional training for teachers; additional support for children and young people who may be experiencing domestic violence; and contribution to the national campaign to reduce violence against women and their children.
Better digital technology in schools
Ongoing replacement and refresh of computers and the expansion of wireless internet capability in our primary schools.
More funding to keep our community safe
A boost in funding to the services that support ACT Policing's frontline operations.
The ACT Government's Vision for Canberra
The 2015-16 Budget is for Canberra. The ACT Government is joining with the community and our local businesses to renew the city and bolster our economy to support jobs for Canberrans.
We want Canberra to remain the world's most liveable city and a place all Canberrans can be proud of.
In 2015-16, the Government will spend $4.7 billion in the delivery of services to the people of Canberra. The government will also invest a further $825 million in infrastructure (and a total of $2.8 billion over the next four years).
