Capital Works Program

Overview

The 2021-22 Budget Review includes $185.8 million over five years to 2025-26 for the delivery of new infrastructure projects, increasing the total value of the Infrastructure Investment Program to $6.6 billion over five years. The $6.6 billion includes $5.148 billion for the Government's Capital Works Program and $1.448 billion of activities self-funded by Public Trading Enterprises (PTEs).

As our city grows, we are supporting the delivery of new and renewed facilities. Key priorities for the Government include our public healthcare and education systems, our growing transport network, supporting the local arts and entertainment precincts and a continued focus on the sustainable housing and environmental needs of the community.

Many of the investment projects deliver benefits across multiple dimensions of the Wellbeing Framework, maximising value for our community. For this reason, the wellbeing classification below is based on the wellbeing domain that is likely to benefit the community the most from the initiative investment, recognising that the overall benefit from that initiative is much broader.

The database also classifies projects by project type, e.g. public housing, urban infrastructure, urban roads etc. This provides information on the main area of focus of projects but it is important to note that projects often have significant impacts in other areas – for example, many projects classified as urban or major roads projects include works to improve active travel (e.g. bike lanes) or public transport priority measures.
