The ACT Government celebrates the contribution of Canberra’s diverse communities to the life and culture of our vibrant city.
The Government understands that cultural diversity strengthens our society and our economy. We support these outcomes through events and awards, funding for participation grants and multicultural community broadcasters, and initiatives to help migrants improve their English language skills and find a job.
In 2018-19, the ACT Government will continue to support multicultural communities in Canberra through both existing commitments and new initiatives including:
- Boosting funding for the National Multicultural Festival to strengthen this vibrant, much loved community event that celebrates Canberra’s rich cultural diversity and our social cohesion.
- Holding a Multicultural Summit to facilitate Government, community organisations, and the broader ACT community coming together to inform future policy on multicultural youth, economic participation, language and culture, access to services, and more.
- Delivering more support to reduce homelessness among migrant families. This will include extended operating hours of OneLink to improve coordination of services and responsiveness for clients.
