The ACT Government delivers quality, accessible education and early learning through local schools so that young Canberrans have the best start to life. The 2018 Budget will deliver new and expanded schools for our growing suburbs and recruit more teachers to bolster our world class education system.
Close to 48,000 students study at an ACT public school from pre-school to college. They are supported on their learning journey by over 5,000 public school teachers and support staff, who see the ACT achieve some of the best education outcomes in the country.

Laptops in schools
We are delivering on our commitment to provide every ACT public secondary student with a laptop to support their learning. The first 15,000 laptops were rolled out to students at the start of the 2018 school year, with the ACT becoming the first jurisdiction in Australia to provide these devices to every public secondary school student.
Future of education
We are delivering outcomes under the Future of Education strategy.
This includes more teacher mentoring, strengthening teacher capability in teaching literacy and numeracy, and improved collaboration between schools and the University of Canberra on teacher education and professional learning.
The new Molonglo primary school will provide places for 600 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 & places for 44 pre-schoolers – with space for future growth. The school will be ready to accept students from the start of the 2021 school year.
