Slipway and Hardstand Facility

The Slipway and Hardstand Facility on Black Mountain Peninsula is designed to facilitate the dry maintenance requirements for boat operators on Lake Burley Griffin.

There are few precedents for facilities of this nature around Australia, so extensive consultation with the boat operators, lake user groups, and the client were required to meet the operational needs of its users. In-depth research into the relevant regulatory codes, standards, and environmental guidelines was also undertaken to ensure the facility meets best practice.

The simple building form and design belies the complex planning requirements. The design of the facility enhances the functional aspects of the building to be expressive elements, ensuring the facility meets the high standards of design required for a Lake of National Significance. Careful consideration was given to minimise any interruption to the surrounding landscape, and minimise the cost of the facility.

The property is at Black Mountain Peninsula, Garryowen Drive, Acton
